Our Patron, Professor Margot Prior AO, is an internationally acclaimed researcher, teacher and clinician in the field of Autism Spectrum Disorder and family and child development, which she has studied for more than 35 years, at Monash, LaTrobe and Melbourne Universities. Until 2002, she was the Director of Psychology at the Royal Children’s Hospital, Melbourne.
Professor Prior has written and/or edited seven books and has also published more than 200 scientific papers and chapters in her various areas of expertise in child development and clinical psychology. She consults to many national and international agencies.
Professor Prior’s current research is focused on early markers of Autism Spectrum Disorder, and on a longitudinal study of children’s language and literacy development from infancy to school age.
Professor Prior was a Founder of the Victorian Parenting Centre, and the Learning Difficulties Centre at the Royal Children’s Hospital. She has also worked in aboriginal mental health and in developing psychology in Vietnam. The Margot Prior Wing at La Trobe has also been opened in her honour.
We are working on a project to appoint a number of Autism Ambassadors across a number of fields to help us with our work to raise awareness and understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorder amongst the whole population of Victoria.
Ideally the Ambassadors will have a personal connection to Autism Spectrum Disorder through a family member or close personal friend, so that they have some understanding of the effects on the individual and the family.
If you have a personal connection to someone who is an expert in their field, a well-known person, a celebrity, a sports-person, a TV personality, a health professional or other person who might be interested in becoming an Autism Ambassador, please make a recommendation to us.
