What does spectrum mean to you? Comic busts some myths

Rebecca Burgess, a freelance artist and illustrator, is frustrated by the way many people perceive the autism spectrum.

She has attempted to cut through the confusion by creating a comic explanation for the spectrum.

Burgess maintains that the spectrum can be best described by dispensing with a linear autism spectrum image.

She dismisses the notion that you’re “not autistic, “very autistic” or somewhere in between. Instead, she offers an explanation using a round spectrum of traits or ways the brain processes information.

One of Burgess’ key objectives is to show how stereotypical attitudes can play a part in people on the spectrum being denied the opportunity to reach their potential.

We’re keen to find out what you think of Burgess’ illustration.
