Congratulations to the 90 people who took part in this year’s Run Melbourne on Saturday and Sunday, raising over $58,000 for the orgnisation! This was far beyond our expectations and more than double the number of competitors and funds raised compared to last year. There were 5 children taking part in Saturday’s children’s run which was 3km, and 85 running the 3 different distances on Sunday – 5km, 10km and half marathon.
Run Melbourne gets bigger and better every time and there were moere than 27,000 participants at this year’s event. It’s very well organised and has a great atmosphere. The weather was also perfect - a nice surprise given the rather ‘iffy’ forecast.
We would like to say thank you to everyone who ran, raised funds, made a donation or came along on the day. We are very grateful for all contributions: fundraising is always important, but so too is the opportunity to improve awareness about ASD that an event like this provides.
Unfortunately we cannot mention the names of all 90 runners, but we would like to make a few special mentions:
Richard Winneke was not only our top fundraiser, but the top fundraiser for the entire Run Melbourne event! Richard raised $17,760 (and ran 10km in just 42 minutes 55 seconds by the way) – and this beat his last year’s tally by $4,000.
Greg Harrop raised $4,484 and was also in the top 10 individual fundraisers for Run Melbourne. This was Greg’s first 10km run and he achieved it in 58 minutes 43 seconds.
Wendy Townsend raised $2,665 in the 5km run, Maire McKeown raised $1,275 in the 10km run and Malachi Sanders, age 5 raised $1,040! Charlotte Miraglia, Sally West and Lisa Mann each came close to $1000.
The Puzzlers Team, made up of Danny Swanton, Heath Butterworth, Chris Wilson, Lisa Parella, Robert Moschetti, Luke David, Peter Bridges, Mark Cassarino, Paul Fenn, Cindy Swanton and Naomi Irvin raised $10,727!
Ruby’s Run Team, Laura Birch, Angela Gatt, Kerrie Robinson and Rachael Scoble raised $1,543.
The next event on the running calendar is the Melbourne Marathon Festival on 14 October – 5.7km, 10km, half marathon and full marathon: it’s a great time to start training….
